In the 2008 film, the repulsors are a form of propulsion and (as hand units) steering jets, though they can be used offensively. They have been referred to as being magnetic, a blast of charged particles, and as a force beam. The repulsors originated as a hand attachment, but have since become the armor's most important standard armament. The defining abilities of Stark's armor are the jets situated in the boots and the repulsors situated in the gauntlets. Earlier versions of the armor could also fold virtually flat, allowing Stark to store them in his bullet-proof briefcase. Furthermore, they typically have multiple power sources including a secondary solar energy collection function in the event that conventional-recharging methods are unavailable. Every suit has a self-contained environment, assorted onboard weapons systems, enhanced strength, flight, and various communications arrays and sensors (such as radar and radio). They are made of incredibly-strong, fictional materials bolstered by a force field. Stark's suits are each unique in design and purpose. 5 Armors from alternate realities and possible futures.4.1.11 Iron Man Model 30 (Extremis Armor).3.4.10 Renaissance Armor ("Heroes Return")/Sentient armor.3.4.9 Prometheum Armor ("Heroes Reborn").3.4.2 War Machine Armor (Variable Threat Response Battle Suit Mark I).3.3.7 Iron Man Armor MK VIII (New Red and Gold).3.3.6 Low Observable Armor (Stealth Armor MK II).3.3.4 Iron Man Armor MK VII (Silver Centurion).3.3.3 Iron Man Armor MK VI (Recovery armor).3.3.2 Iron Man Armor Model 07 (Stealth Armor MK I).3.2.1 Iron Man Armor MK IV (classic red and gold).3.1.3 Iron Man Armor MK III (original red and gold).3.1.2 Iron Man Armor MK II (Golden Avenger). But regardless, Armor Wars is certainly preparing to tackle War Machine's attempts to live up to Tony's example, one way or another. The Silver Centurion moniker would certainly be less imposing for the civilians. If War Machine ended up deciding on the former, the Silver Centurion suit could be an ideal fresh start to symbolize his transformation from soldier to hero. Or perhaps fully commit to his military life and abandon his pursuits with the Avengers. This seemingly indicates something of an identity crisis for the military man turned Avengers member with his career in the US Military potentially at odds with Rhodey's attempts to carry on the legacy of Tony Stark.įurthermore, Don Cheadle hinted that Armor Wars is set to be "a rebirth in a way" for his character, further indicating that War Machine may need to shed his military ties to become a true superhero. While information regarding the plot of the Armor Wars film is sparse, it was confirmed by War Machine's actor Don Cheadle that the film is set to explore War Machine's attempt to find his place within a post Avengers: Endgame MCU. But the MCU's Armor Wars adaptation could potentially have the opposite happen for Rhodey. However, Rhodey did eventually use an upgraded silver-and-black Silver Centurion suit in Iron Man #284 (by Len Kaminski, Kevin Hopgood, Andrew Pepoy, and Mike Rockwitz) which became the basis for his eventual transformation into War Machine. Despite being meant as a replacement for Rhodey's older Iron Man suit, the Silver Centurion was largely used by Tony. However, after a devastating rampage by Iron Monger during Iron Man #199 (by Dennis O'Neil, Herb Trimpe, Ian Akin, Brian Garvey, and Bob Sharen), Tony was forced to wear the armor meant for Rhodey to travel to Stane Industries to and defeat his sworn nemesis.Īfter using the Silver Centurion to defeat Iron Monger, Tony would continue to use the Silver Centurion throughout the Armor Wars arc until its conclusion in Iron Man #232 (by David Michelinie, Barry Windsor-Smith, and Bob Layton). Thus, in Avengers Headquarters, Tony constructed a suit for his close ally War Machine after he had previously been wearing an older Iron Man suit to cover for Tony. During the landmark Iron Man #200 (by Dennis O'Neil, Mark Bright, Ian Akin, Brian Garvey, and Bob Sharen), Tony decided that he wanted to quit being Iron Man in order to combat his alcoholism.
